This is my first post on CGTalk. I am a long time viewer, but only now did I summon the courage to actually post something.
This piece is inspired by Alexander Preuss's winning entry to the Grand Space Opera Challenge and is entitled Exodus. You might notice that one of the ships look very similar to Alexander's design.
I was going for a moody atmosphere and a sense of loss. As in - these people are sailing off into the foreboding unknown, and probably not coming back home.
All work is done in Lightwave. Textures are predominantly procedural, with some image maps applied here and there. (Specifically to the small ship). The planet and nebula are both procedural.
The orignal image was rendered at 3200x1280.
Comments and crits are welcome.
